Minburn Cemetery
This cemetery is also known as the Kimrey Cemetery.  The story goes that a family was traveling westward in search of a place to call home. They were forced to stop because their children were ill.  They eventually died of typhoid.

John Kimrey donated about two acres of land from his homestead so this family could bury their children.  There were no stones available for headstones at the time, and these graves have become lost.

The cemetery was surveyed on August 13, 2000. There were at least 7 stones with unreadable names. The headstones in this cemetery date back to about 1850.

Directions
From Minburn Iowa, go south on Hwy 169 to 210th St (approx 1.5 miles) Turn right (west) onto 210th and follow this road until it curves left (south) which is Midland Trail.

Continue south, and you will see a house on the left with a driveway on the right.  This is a private driveway, so please continue south.  You will soon find another driveway on the right (west) side of the road, which will lead you to the cemetery.

Frank Stanley started doing gravestone research work in 1998 when he was asked to locate a grave for someone.  While doing this, he found a family member of his own.  He decided it would be beneficial for people to have a listing of grave sites.  Mr. Stanley states, "If you go to a cemetery when no staff is there, it is hard to find a grave site unless you walk the whole cemetery.  Many people are handicapped by age or health, etc. and can't do this themselves."

The Minburn (Kimery) Cemetery is very old, and the graves are difficult to read.  I asked Mr. Stanley how long it takes to index the graves.  "Depending on the size of the cemetery, it takes 3 hours or more.  If mother nature has obscured a stone, I may need to clean the stone.  I always use gloves to protect the stone from moisture and oils from my hands so I don't damage the stone.  I use a paintbrush to clean the stone.  I then return any debris so it is protected.  I NEVER use any force or abrasive materials to clean the stones."

So far, Mr. Stanley has walked 20 cemeteries in Dallas County, 5 in Carroll County, 3 in Boone County, 10 in Greene County, and 4 in Polk County.

He has indexed at least 2000 grave stones in Dallas County alone and that number is still growing. He also takes care of 17 cemeteries in Dallas county.
